Motorcyclist, 22, dead after serious Alice Springs crash on Stuart Hwy

A 22-year-old motorcyclist has died in hospital after a serious crash in Alice Springs.

Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Aila said the man’s motorcycle collided with a Toyota HiLux on the Stuart Hwy and Dalgety Rd intersection at about 9pm Friday.

Sergeant Aila said the motorcyclist had been travelling with another rider, who stopped at the scene alongside the ute driver.

He said the ute driver contacted police after the incident.

Sergeant Aila said emergency services rushed the man to Alice Springs Hospital where he was declared deceased a short time later, bringing the NT’s road toll to 42.

He said police had set up a crime scene at the crash site while investigations continued.

“Major Crash Detectives are in the early stages of their investigation and are urging anyone with dashcam footage to make contact with police on 131 444 and quote P24215205,” he said.

Sergeant Aila said traffic diversions on the Stuart Hwy were in place and motorists should expect delays until 10am Friday.
