Members of an outlaw motorcycle gang now have a court date, Northern Territory police say, after drug trafficking charges were laid.

Police said six members of the Mongrel Mob were arrested by the Gangs Task Force over allegedly distributing illicit substances into remote communities.

The six men were charged with supplying a commercial quantity of a schedule two dangerous drug, according to police.

Four of the men were remanded in custody, with one to appear in court in August, while the other three will appear in court in September, police said.

The other two are out on bail and will appear in court this month, police said.

The arrest come as NT police wrap up “Operation Morpheus”, a national week of action held between August 5 and 9.

“With the sole aim of causing maximum disruption to outlaw motorcycle gangs, police across the country arrested over 100 people, laid over 250 charges and seized firearms, weapons, various drugs, illicit cigarettes, tobacco and vapes and over $100,000 cash as part of a national week of action,” police said.

In the NT, the operation also resulted in five vehicles being issued defect notices, four firearm prohibition orders served, and four men arrested for a variety of offences including traffic offences, drug supply, breach of bail and drugs and weapons offences.

Superintendent Lee Morgan said the operation showed a clear message to outlaw motorcycle gangs in the Territory: “You are not welcome”.

“The negative social and economic impact of these gangs is significant, and NT Police will utilise every resource at our disposal to disrupt the illegal activities of outlaw motorcycle gangs and drive them out of the NT,” he said.
