Hot cross buns stocked in Gold Coast supermarkets four months before Easter

We’ve just got past Christmas, but hot cross buns are on sale in Gold Coast stores today. But there’s a good reason the supermarkets have introduced them so soon

The latest hot cross bun trend

CHRISTMAS is over, the new year is here and stores are already starting to stock items for the next big holiday, with hot cross buns on sale in supermarkets on the Gold Coast as of today.

Although Easter is months away, some people have been patiently awaiting for the soft bun treat to arrive.

SUPERMARKETS STOCKING HOT CROSS BUNS FOUR MONTHS BEFORE EASTER

While some people think it’s too early, Woolworths have reported hot cross bun sales have grown by 10 per cent in the last year.

Last year more than 72 million hot cross buns were sold, with 10 million of them being eaten in January 2018 alone.

Despite this, Gold Coasters have mixed opinions on when they should be sold in stores so soon.

Steven Callaghan from Main Beach said he only buys a pack of buns once a year, but understands why stores are stocking them early.
