Tyalgum local Solar Chappel takes to rain dance to break the drought

In some towns near the Gold Coast the water situation is getting so dire locals are taking to unusual methods to bring the rain.

THE water situation at Tyalgum is getting so dire, some locals are looking to unusual methods of making it rain.

Well-known Tyalgum identity, Flutterbies’ Events manager Solar Chappel, said it wasn’t the first time the village had experienced prolonged drought but the level 4 water restrictions were making things a little tough.

“If anything, it brings the village together and many locals realise it is just something we have to deal with,” Mr Chappel said.

“This is a very resilient community and most of the people here are remaining positive and are just getting on with life.”

And doing his bit to keep spirits up and try and bring some rain, Mr Chappel took to the streets to do his best Gene Kelly rendition of Singing In The Rain in the hope of a change in the weather.

“I think in times like this, you need to smile and I would like to encourage everyone to be their best Gene Kelly ‘raindance’ - who knows what might happen?”
