A Nerang man who allegedly attempted to bite a man, threatened to ‘bomb’ a Centrelink and rammed a car twice in the space of two months is still awaiting a mental health assessment after being locked up for almost a year

Magistrate Joan White adjourned Troy Patrick Tenadii’s matter in the Southport Magistrates Court until Friday so a date for his assessment could be provided.

The 38-year-old has been behind bars since a series of incidents culminated in an alleged attack at an unknown Hungry Jack’s outlet on October 28 2021.

He appeared in court via videolink from jail for a bail application on Tuesday.

Tenadii is facing a string of charges, with the most serious being assault occasioning bodily harm, bomb hoax and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

The court was told he allegedly rammed the back of a car twice while driving on September 1 2021.

The victim got out of their car after being rammed to check on Tenadii, asking him, “what are you doing? I have two young children in the car”.

The court was told Tenadii then reversed and allegedly took off at high speed towards the victim, forcing them to jump out of the way.

A week later, on September 8, 2021, he allegedly threatened to “bomb” a Centrelink building after being told he could not receive his benefits until he fulfilled his obligations.

The alleged attack occurred at a Hungry Jack’s.

Tenadii allegedly told a staff member, “If I don’t get my money, I will bomb this place and that’s a promise, not a threat”, the court was told.

The court was told that Tenadii allegedly tried to bite the Uber Eats driver at a Hungry Jack’s in October 2021 when he approached the fast food outlet’s counter.

A police prosecutor told the court the “random attack” continued after the victim ran outside, with Tenadii allegedly throwing a number of punches before onlookers broke it up.

Lawyer Michael Gatenby said his client needed a mental health assessment, noting he had been behind bars for nearly a year without one being completed.

“I think unfortunately, while we’re all being critical, I think there are just such demands on mental health (services),” Mr Gatenby said.

Magistrate White agreed an assessment was needed and had the matter adjourned until September 16 so the court could be advised a date when one could occur.

“‘I’m not being critical of anyone because I know how difficult it is,” she said.

Magistrate White told Tenadii: “If someone comes to see you, you need to co-operate.”

Tenadii responded: “Perfectly understood”.

He will remain in custody until his next appearance.
