A man who allegedly attacked a man and mum with her toddler in a park was on bail for another alleged assault at the time, a court was told.

On Friday, police were called to Gold Coast’s Olympus Dr in Robina about 4.50pm after reports a man had allegedly attacked two people. Harley Daniel Osborne, 31, was charged with two counts of assault.

Osborne appeared via phone in the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday, where his matter was adjourned to September 15.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Karen Friedrichs told the court the 31-year-old was on bail for another alleged assault occasioning bodily harm offence from July 13.

He is due to appear in Coolangatta Magistrates Court on September 19 for that matter. Osborne had a history of “violent offences” where he previously received terms of imprisonment, Sgt Friedrichs told the court.

“The circumstances are, he presents a clear and present danger to the community,” she said. Osborne was remanded in custody until his next court date.

His matter was briefly mentioned in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, before Magistrate Joan White adjourned it to Tuesday.

Duty lawyer David Carlin, of Legal Aid Queensland, told the court he had difficulty speaking with Osborne about his matter over the phone.

“I was told I wasn’t able to see him via videolink because (Southport) watchhouse staff said that’s due to his behaviour over the course of the weekend,” Mr Carlin said.

“It was very difficult to communicate with him, he became a bit abusive. I think part of that might have been frustration.”
