The family of the woman who tragically died in a head-on collision on the Gold Coast last night say she was “one of the most selfless people in the world”.
Emergency services were called to a motorbike and car crash on Guineas Creek Rd in Elanora at 5.45pm on Thursday.
Police reports showed a motorbike rider was heading west on Guineas Creek Rd between Simpsons Rd and Wirildar Drive when it collided head-on with an SUV.
Tallebudgera woman Claudia Galleguillos, 41, who was riding the motorbike, died at the scene.
Ms Galleguillos’ nephew Jesse Bryant said his mother Nikki called him on Thursday night to share the horrific news.
“I’m still in shock,” Mr Bryant said.
Mr Bryant said it was unclear where Ms Galleguillos – who lived with her mother and partner – was going at the time of the crash.
“We haven’t been given any information,” he said.
“She was home by herself before she went out.”
Mr Bryant said his aunty had helped raise him and his sister.
“She was always so helpful and she was one of the most selfless people I could’ve ever met,” she said.
Mr Bryant said Ms Galleguillos – who had been living on the Gold Coast for three years – worked as a barista and loved working on motorbikes.
He said the family were still in shock after only seeing her a couple of days ago and she was “in a happy mood”.
Ms Galleguillos’ brother Felipe Galleguillos started a GoFundMe on Friday morning – with a goal of $10,000 – to help with the costs of the funeral.
“I still can’t believe that once again I’m having to call on the help and support of friends and loved ones to help lay my beautiful and loving sister, Claudia, to rest,” he said.
“I understand that the goal is high and don't expect that much but any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
“I will keep everyone updated with funeral arrangements and plans.”
Paramedics who arrived at the scene five minutes after the collision also assessed a 48-year-old woman who had minor injuries and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.
The Forensic Crash Unit are continuing investigations into the accident.
