JUPITERS, soon to become The Star Gold Coast, will finish their new hotel this year — and it features an ultra-luxury floor that most of us will never see.

HIGH rollers will splash their cash in a luxury glass-walled suite near the top of the new six-star hotel rising at Jupiters Casino — which will become The Star Gold Coast in two weeks.

A year from now, the 800 workers swarming inside and outside of the elliptical cylinder will be replaced by thousands of visitors staying and partying in the city for the Commonwealth Games.

At the shining glass peak of the 17-storey, six-star hotel will be a one-of-a-kind, world-class dining and entertainment venture — with a deal set to be inked with the high-profile operators within months.

Beneath the music and lights is where many of the real millions will be moving — and it’s a place most punters will never see.

Here the figurative whales — clients who make the most breathtaking bets — will be able to watch actual whales breach and spray from the glass-walled luxury high rollers’ suites on the exclusive top hotel level.

It’s as far from the dingy clock-free gaming floors of the 1980s as you can get.

“We want them to know they’re in Australia, they’re on the Gold Coast,” says Star Entertainment Queensland managing director Geoff Hogg.

“The room itself is nice, but it’s all about the view and the whole idea there is that when they’re playing they look outside of the glass and see the Coast.

“Everything we’re trying to do in the rooms and the VIP gaming area is, for our international guests, to make sure they can really sense they’re on the Gold Coast, really appreciate the sub tropical environment, the fresh air, beach — we want them to see it and feel it.”

The hotel’s construction will top out in the next two months, when the external facade and internal fitout will commence with gusto as the countdown to the Games intensifies.

In addition the gaming floor of the current building will be built out to join the new sports bar on level one of the new hotel.

It will be a glass-walled, sport fan’s paradise and is due to open by next March.

The hotel’s 17-storey height is the same as the current hotel’s 21 floors, with higher ceilings built into the new plans to add a new dimension of luxury.

High ceilings and plush interiors are all part of the plans but a new approach to service is what Mr Hogg said would be the drawcard.

“There won’t really be a check-in, you’ll arrive at the hotel, have a quiet drink, we talk about the hotel and take you up to your room — we’re moving away from the checking-in experience to more of just a welcome,” he said.

“In some cases we’ll actually meet and greet them at the airport.”

The latest stage of The Star’s $840 million plan for Broadbeach will be completed in time for the Commonwealth Games, after which they hope to start construction of their first residential tower.

“We’ll be going out for pre-sales for some of those apartments later this year,” Mr Hogg said. “We’ll hopefully be going to tender for that development this calendar year and getting really under way after the Commonwealth Games.”
