The Greatest Sporting Moments of 2017

COUNCIL have warned fans heading to the Cbus Super Stadium for tonight’s Origin III clash that parking officers will be out in force to prevent chaos in surrounding streets.

Cars have been left across driveways and on yellow lines during previous big events at the stadium, leading to consternation among local residents.

A council spokesperson said footy fans should instead consider using public transport, which is free for ticket-holders.

“The Robina Stadium Traffic Area is activated on event days to manage traffic flow and safe parking around the stadium,” the spokesperson said.

“Parking officers will patrol the area to ensure motorists are complying with event day parking restrictions.

“The City encourages patrons of tonight’s State of Origin match to explore public transport options for travel to and from the game.”

Organisers have advised the venue will run the same transport options as normal NRL games.

JULY 13

GOLD Coast venues will cover all the action of State of Origin game three for those who cannot make it to Cbus Super Stadium.

Robina Pavilion manager Damien Stephen said his venue was the “closest and biggest” place to watch all the Origin thrills and spills without the crowds.

“We’re going to have massive outdoor screens, daybeds and fire pits,” Mr Stephen said.

“We’re going to make it a festival experience.”

The venue has prepared for more than 380 people, with shuttle buses running from the stadium grounds to the hotel on the night.

“I think it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity having the game in the Gold Coast,” Mr Stephen said.

“There’s that much excitement about it. (Since the Covid-19 lockdowns) I think people are looking forward to getting out a little bit – still responsibly, of course.”
