The Gold Coast’s top baby names of 2018 revealed

It’s official — Gold Coast parents are obsessed with these baby names. Did your baby’s name make the list?

PREPARE to meet a lot of little Hudsons and Harpers.

They’re two of the names featuring in the top ten baby names given to Gold Coast boys and girls in 2018.

Isla was most popular for girls and Leo took out top spot for boys, while 2017’s most popular names – Charlotte and Oliver – have both tumbled down the list.

Varsity Lakes mother Joanne Robertson knows how hard it can be to choose a name after having three boys in less than five years.

She gave birth to her third baby boy last May she decided to call him Jack, which was the second most popular boys’ name on the Gold Coast last year.

“We had Jack about 9am in the morning. We were delayed about half an hour as someone else had an emergency C-section,” she said.

“Turns out we had the same obstetrician and paediatrician and we both called our sons Jack.”

She said her and husband Hugh knew it was a popular name, but loved its qualities.

“We both have Jacks in the family. Our grandparents and great grandparents are Jacks,” she said.

“Our next door neighbour is called Jack. There are lots of Jacks around.

“It’s such a nice Australian, friendly name. ‘Jack’ will always be a good bloke. And he will never going to be the kid who is asked to spell it.”

THE GOLD COAST’S TOP BABY NAMES FOR 2017

“With Archer, we chose his name about half way through. Harvey was about two weeks out and Jack was during the delivery,” she said.

“It wasn’t until (Jack) was born was when we decided. Alex was our second option, but I really liked Ellis.”
