Popular southern Gold Coast venue The Backyard Cafe has shut up shop, according to a shock social media post.
The Nobby Beach cafe and restaurant on Lavarack Rd was opened by well-known hospitality operator Scott Imlach in August 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mr Imlach – the man behind city venues including Hideaway Bar & Kitchen, Bine and Nightjar – said several months later that Backyard was considered a “pop-up” venue and was expected to be demolished by mid-2021.
However, Mr Imlach sold The Backyard about 18 months ago, he confirmed to the Bulletin.
On Sunday night, the eatery’s fate was revealed on social media platforms.
“Grateful for everyone and all the moments we got to share with you all! Much Love,” a Facebook post read.
“It is with a heavy heart we inform today was the last day of The Backyard Cafe.
“We are sorry for the late notice, it all happened very quickly. We expected to have more time to enjoy the relationship with our community.
“We are so thankful for the many great memories made with family, friends and locals.”
The post thanked the “amazing staff that always gave their best, with great service and amazing vibes”.
“We wish all the best to our Backyard family and hope to keep the great relationship,” the post read.
More to come.
