Update 4.45pm: A hiker who fell 50m from a cliff in the Gold Coast hinterland has been winched to safety.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.

Reports emerged just before 10am Thursday that a man had lost his footing while walking along the Natural Bridge trail at Springbrook National Park.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said it appeared the man, aged in his 70s, could have fallen as far as 50 metres.

The man was complaining that he was unable to move his arms and bleeding from the head.

Update, 3.30pm: Flight paramedics have reached a man who fell from a cliff in the Gold Coast hinterland.

The injured hiker, aged in his 70s, is understood to be in a stable condition.

Update, 2pm: An hours-long mission to recover a man who has fallen from a cliff in the Gold Coast hinterland is still underway.

The patient, aged in his 70s, fell about 50 metres while walking at the Natural Bridge trail at Springbrook National Park about 10am Thursday.

QAS Officer in Charge Sean Breeden at the scene said the man was able to contact emergency workers to call for help, prompting the search and rescue.

“At this stage, we have a rescue helicopter from Lismore assisting. We’ve located the patient and had two paramedics winched in,” Mr Breeden said.

“The helicopter’s gone back to Southport to refuel and we should hopefully be winching him out in about an hour.”

Mr Breeden said the man was complaining that he was unable to move his arms and bleeding from the head.

Six paramedics, two fire crews and an SES unit are attempting to reach the man on-foot.

“They’re approximately two kilometres in and in some quite busy terrain and they’re helping with the extraction,” Mr Breeden explained.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said it appeared the man, aged in his 70s, could have fallen as far as 50 metres.

As of 11.40am, both paramedics and firefighters were still working to reach the man in what has been described as a “prolonged rescue.”

The man’s injuries are unknown but it is understood he is responsive.

A QFES spokeswoman said officers were liasing with the Rescue 500 helicopter to assist with the rescue.

Man seriously burned in Coast boat explosion

UPDATE 2.30PM: A man has been rushed to hospital with serious burns injuries after a boat explosion on the Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Boatworks Dr, Coomera, about 1.30pm Wednesday.

Queensland Ambulance Service operations supervisor Mitch Ware said the victim, 33, appeared to have suffered ‘flash burns’ while working on an engine at The Boat Works at Coomera.

He suffered facial, airway and limb burns in the incident.

“Other people were in the area at the time so it was fortunate no-one else was injured,” Mr Ware said.

“The victim managed to remove himself from the boat and was being provided with first-aid when QAS arrived on the scene.”

He has been taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Fire crews also attended but did not have to extinguish any flames.

The Boat Works, owned by multi-millionaire Gold Coast businessman Tony Longhurst, declined to comment.

Two inspectors from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland have arrived at the scene to investigate the incident.

INITIAL 2.15PM: EMERGENCY services are at the scene of a reported boat explosion on the Gold Coast.

The incident happened about 1.30pm at Boatworks Dr, Coomera.

Ambulance, police and fire crews remain on scene.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics were assessing one person at the scene.

Firefighters are investigating the area around the boat where the suspected explosion occurred.

“There are no further hazards at this point,” a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said.

Gold Coast hinterland crash – October 28

EMERGENCY crews responded to a single-vehicle rollover in the Gold Coast hinterland early Tuesday morning.

The vehicle rolled after losing control along Currumbin Creek Rd at Currumbin Valley before colliding with a tree just after 6.30am.

Paramedics assessed three people at the scene, though early reports suggested there were no serious injuries or entrapments.

The patients – a woman, male and an unknown third person – were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Police and firefighters also attended the scene.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said a “large quantity” of oil had spilled across the road.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution through the area.

Teen boy killed in hinterland crash

A TEENAGE boy has died after his car slammed into a power pole in the Gold Coast hinterland early on Thursday morning.

A member of the community alerted Gold Coast police and Queensland Ambulance after a car was spotted in bushland off Quinzeh Creek Rd about 1.45am, according to a police statement.

A 17-year-old boy from the Logan suburb of Yarrabilba was found critically injured in the wreckage.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the vehicle was travelling in a north westerly direction when it left the road and crashed into a wooden power pole,” the statement read.

“The teenager died at the scene.”

The Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Paramedics assessed the boy with critical injuries “at the scene of a single-vehicle crash”, Queensland Ambulance stated.
