A LOGAN man will today face a Tweed Heads court over the alleged historical sexual assault of three young girls in northern NSW.

Tweed/Byron Police District detectives launched an investigation in November last year after receiving a referral from Victoria Police in relation to alleged sexual assault offences.

During the investigation, police received information relating to three girls – then aged eight, 11 and 13 – who had allegedly been sexually assaulted by a man known to them on several occasions between 1995 and 2004 at locations including Doon Doon, Baryugil and Tenterfield.

Following extensive inquiries, officers obtained an arrest warrant for a 67-year-old Queensland man.

Detectives arrested a 67-year-old man at a home at Waterford West on September 13.

The man appeared at Beenleigh Magistrates Court, where investigators applied for, and were granted, the man’s extradition to NSW.

He was escorted to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with outstanding arrest warrants and 12 offences including four counts of sexual intercourse with person under the age of 10 years, six counts of aggravated indecent assault (victim under authority of offender), aggravated sex assault (victim under authority of offender) and take and drive conveyance without consent of owner.

The man was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on September 15 and is due to appear again today.

Thief in custody after BMW joy-ride

A CAR thief is in custody after stealing a vehicle from a shopping centre and taking it on a short joy-ride.

Police were called to a Robina shopping complex after a blue BMW was reported stolen about 11am.

The police helicopter, Polair, tracked the vehicle from above, until the male thief was apprehended at Alexander Dr, Nerang just before noon.

Police could not say how old the offender is.

Man charged after sinister find in Tweed traffic stop

POLICE have charged a man who was allegedly found with drugs, thousands of dollars in cash and a makeshift taser after a traffic stop south of the border.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District stopped a white Holden Commodore after watching the vehicle cross a medium strip on Wharf St, Tweed Heads about 12pm Thursday.

“Police spoke to the driver … before searching the vehicle where they allegedly located MDMA, Cocaine, Cannabis, over $3,100 in cash, and an electronic stun device disguised as a torch,” a NSW police statement said.

A 25-year-old man has been charged with supply prohibited drug, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, two counts of possess prohibited drug (x2), and recklessly deal with proceeds of crime.

The man was granted conditional bail and will appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on 29 November 2021.

Stolen vehicle used in Coast business smash and grab

A COUPLE had a shock wake up call overnight after discovering their vehicle had caught fire while parked inside the garage of their Gold Coast home.

The white Toyota Rav 4 was consumed by flames about 3.15am Friday morning at an Old Burleigh Rd address in Surfers Paradise.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokeswoman said two crews attended the scene, with the destroyed vehicle fully extinguished by 3.30am.

Police and Paramedics attended the scene, though no injuries were reported.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said it appeared the fire was caused by an engine fault and was being treated as non-suspicious.

Minor damage occurred to the property after flames reached the overhead balcony.

Meanwhile, police are investigating a break and enter where a car was used to gain entry into a Molendinar business overnight.

Just after 3am three offenders used a stolen white Mitsubishi Outlander to reverse into the front of an Olsen Ave tobacco store, causing significant damage.

The owner is working to determine whether any goods have been stolen at this time.

About an hour later, police received a call about a Mitsubishi Outlander on fire at Kootingal Street at Ashmore.

It is believed this is the vehicle involved in the break and enter offence.

This vehicle had been stolen from an address at Southport between 10.30pm and 5.50am on November 4.

Heart-stopping moment alleged hoon narrowly misses ute

POLICE are on the hunt for an alleged reckless driver captured on dashcam footage performing burnouts and narrowly missing other vehicles on a busy Gold Coast street.

It is alleged the driver – who is yet to be identified – was seen conducting a several acts related to dangerous driving at Coomera Friday afternoon.

Police say at 5pm the dark coloured sedan performed several burnouts in the vicinity of licenced premises along Dreamworld Parkway, before swerving between traffic.

In one heart-stopping moment, the driver can be seen narrowly avoiding a collision with a truck and several other vehicles – even crossing into lanes of oncoming traffic.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward as they attempt to identify the driver.

Three injured after jetski rolls off trailer on Coast

UPDATE 4.40PM: Paramedics have taken three people to Gold Coast University Hospital after they were injured in a jetski incident.

A man in his 50s, a man in his 20s and a female in her late teens were taken in a stable condition.

Emergency services rushed to a private address on Pacific St, Main Beach about 4pm Friday after reports of injuries when a jetski rolled off a trailer.

Two people suffered leg injuries and another had a potential chest injury.

Fireys called to fuel spill at Surfers Paradise

A REPORTED chemical incident which resulted in emergency services dashing to Surfers Paradise has turned out to be a fairly mundane fuel spill.

Several Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), Queensland Ambulance and Gold Coast police workers rushed to Riverview Parade, Surfers Paradise about 4.15pm on Thursday.

A “smell of gas” was reported in the area, but police were later told someone “accidentally spilt fuel in the area”.

QFES made sure the area was safe and emergency services left the area, a spokeswoman said.

It was not clear if the fuel spilt from a vehicle.

Police probe motorway road rage incident

October 28: Police have appealed for dashcam footage after a road rage fight broke out near roadworks on the M1 at the Gold Coast.

A grey Haval H2 wagon and a red Mitsubishi Triton ute were spotted being driven “dangerously” with the drivers “interacting with each other” while travelling northbound on the Pacific Motorway near Stewarts Rd about 7.45pm on Saturday, September 25.

“Both drivers stopped at roadworks on the motorway at Elanora before exiting their vehicles,” a Queensland Police statement read.

“Police will allege an altercation occurred between the two drivers, both men, during which a 39-year-old Pimpama man sustained minor injuries to his face and stomach.”

Police officers have been investigating, more than a month after the incident.

Anyone who may have dashcam footage or information relating to the dangerous driving or the altercation has been urged to come forward.
