A LANDMARK building in the heart of Bryon Bay that has been in the one family for 86 years, and for four decades housed a surf shop, is being sold.
The property, Timperley’s Corner, was bought by Ruth and Harold Timperley in 1935 and used as a vehicle workshop.
The next generation of the family changed its use and opened the surf shop Bay Action.
Today, the bulk of the building is leased to the US-based Boardriders Group, which owns the Gold Coast-founded Billabong brand along with the Surf Dive ’n Ski, Quiksilver, Billabong and Roxy labels.
The Boardriders shop trades under the Surf Dive ’n Ski name.
The Timperley property derives 85 per cent of its $614,537 net annual income from Boardriders, which has taken a new five-year lease.
The two-level 14 Jonson St building is on a 424sq m site.
CBRE’s Mark Witheriff yesterday said the building was on one of Bryon Bay’s busiest intersections and the site’s zoning would allow for the future development of a tourist hub with retail and entertainment options.
Mr Witheriff and CBRE’s Joe Tynan and James Douglas are running a tender campaign for the property and it closes on November 17.
