THEODORE election candidate Gale Oxenford is counting on the family name to help earn her votes come October 31.
The 60-year-old independent candidate has revealed her husband’s family created Oxenford, located in the middle of the Theodore electorate, more than a century ago.
“My husband’s great-great grandfather founded Oxenford about 150 years ago,” she said.
“He arrived on a ship in Brisbane with all his children, so there’s certainly a lot of connection to the area.”
She said while she was “realistic” about her chances of winning, she wanted to keep Theodore MP Mark Boothman on his toes.
“This is the first time I’ve ever done anything like this, and I know Mark Boothman is quite well-liked and respected in the area,” she said.
“So I’m quite realistic about what I believe the outcome will be. But one of the things I believe in is to be in touch with the community.”
Mr Boothman has held the seat since 2017, and maintains it with a 3.7 per cent margin.
