A Gold Coast day spa has lapped up the booming post-pandemic demand for wellness tourism by expanding.

Soak Bathhouse at Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast Highway offers a self-guided wellness experience with communal mineral pools, mineral hot spas, a cold plunge pool, steam room and sauna.

The day spa unveiled its second mineral pool in November to cater to its growing customer base since opening in 2020.

Soak Bathhouse CEO and co-founder Alexis Dyson said the new area was designed to increase the social experience and number of offerings for customers.

“Magnesium is the primary mineral in the pool,” she said.

“Without adequate magnesium, our bodies don’t function properly. That can result in various health issues and a general feeling of lethargy.”

Ms Dyson’s goal when she opened the business was “to make wellness accessible, and to help people see it is possible to feel great every day”.

Soak Bathhouse catered to the many people who embraced healthy lifestyles and craved social connection after experiencing isolation and other health impacts during the Covid pandemic, she said.

“Particularly after the pandemic, people are wanting to find new experiences where they can socialise with friends, loved ones and really have that quality time,” Ms Dyson said.

“We’re shifting from some of those more traditional activities such as heavy dinners and alcohol fuelled nights out.

“People are looking for a way to reconnect with themselves and each other while also getting those other wellness benefits in a relaxing and social environment.”

Ms Dyson said she more people were proactively incorporating wellness activities into their everyday lives, instead of waiting until they experienced burnout to book a retreat.

“With Soak, one of the huge benefits is we are accessible to people in terms of location, price point and availability to get in,” Ms Dyson said.

“You can do a Gold Coast holiday with your family and then, as that secondary wellness element, you can add a visit to Soak.”

It has casual sessions, to packages and gift cards.
