A large deadly snake has been spotted dangerously close to diners and beach goers at a popular Gold Coast bar.
The mature eastern brown snake was spotted by pedestrians in the bushes near the busy Burleigh Pavillion mid-afternoon on Thursday.
Snake catcher Sarah Mailey was called to relocate the reptile.
“It was about 1.2 metres maybe, so not overly large but still quite venomous” she said.
“It’s the third eastern brown spotted in that particular spot in two weeks, I grabbed one there about a week ago. There’s plenty of spots to eat and that attracts the mice and eventually the snakes.
“People just need to be really careful if they’re going anywhere along the coastline, be mindful that they are there, especially around rocks and the bushes. Try and give them some space if you do spot them.”
The Tweed snake catcher has been working with council to try and have temporary signage installed in the area to warn tourists and visitors of snakes.
“There was a video taken in the same spot the other day where a brown snake was feeding on a lizard and the tourist filming it was really close,” she said.
“Eastern Browns are really dangerous and deadly so people just need to be careful.”
Beachgoers are warned to be on the lookout in the morning and early afternoon when snakes are more active.
