Police are investigating after two stolen cars were crashed and dumped at separate ends of the Gold Coast overnight.
A white Audi lost control around 10.30pm on Tuesday ploughing through a fence near Helensvale State High School. The vehicle hit a tree and came to rest in the mangroves.
Residents heard the bang and came outside where a young man was seen running from the wreck. Police were called but the occupants of the car had vanished by the time officers arrived. Detective from the Criminal Investigations Branch also attended the scene and searched the area before the car, which was reported stolen, was seized and towed.
About an hour later and at the opposite end of the Coast a black Aston Martin sports car that was also believed to have been stolen was involved in a crash at Burleigh Heads. The vehicle reportedly mounted the centre median strip at speed on the Gold Coast Highway near Braker Street. The force of the impact, tore a large section from the front bumper of the vehicle.
Several police units including the dog squad were called to attend the scene but the occupants of that car had fled. Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area to contact crime stoppers.
