A builder has hit a female bar manager in the throat and poured beer on another before pushing them in a drunken incident at a popular central Gold Coast venue.
Sidney Slavko Milakovic also gave an expletive laden rant where he told the two Broadbeach Tavern managers: “You will regret this, you have no idea who I am, I will ruin you.”
The 46-year-old’s lawyer admitted Milakovic’s behaviour in the pub was “disgusting, degrading and absolutely unacceptable”.
Milakovic pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday to two counts of common assault and one count each of drunken disorderly and failing to leave a licenced premises.
Police prosecutor Constable Kelly Morris told the court the incident started about 1.30am on January 15 when Milakovic, a mate and his partner went to the Broadbeach Tavern.
Milakovic began to berate his friend for how he had been treating his partner leading to a heated argument.
Const Morris said the bar’s manager asked him to finish their drinks and leave but Milakovic told her to “f*** off”.
The manager asked him again to finish his drink and leave.
The court was told Milakovic replied: You guys are harassing us, you f***ing leave, you c***”.
Const. Morris said the manager again asked him to leave.
She said Milakovic then got in the manager’s face and said: “You will regret this, you have no idea who I am, I will ruin you.”
Const Morris said that is when Milakovic struck out, putting his hand around the manager’s neck and hitting her in the throat.
The court was told the blow was hard enough to interrupt the manager’s breathing.
Const Morris said that is when the tavern’s gaming manager stepped in and yelled: “Don’t you touch her, you can’t be in here”.
The court was told Milakovic poured the beer on the gaming manager’s head and then pushed her with the beer glass in his hand hard enough to make her stumble backwards.
It was then the male bar manager intervened and Milakovic and his friends left.
Defence lawyer Ashkan Tai said Milakovic was “extremely remorseful” for his actions which he described as “disgusting, degrading and absolutely unacceptable”.
Mr Tai said Milakovic had a history with a gambling problem and did not drink often.
Magistrate Louisa Pink sentenced Milakovic to 18 months probation and ordered he pay $700 compensation to the manager he hit in the throat and $300 to the manager he pushed.
She said the managers deserved to be able to do their jobs without fear of abuse.
“You were abusive to her in an entirely acceptable way,” she said.
“I don’t know who you think you are”.
Magistrate Pink described the behaviour as “degrading and completely unacceptable”.
“Unless you stop and recognise you have an alcohol problem and an anger problem that needs to be dealt with you are going to find yourself in prison,” she said.
Milakovic has 60 days to pay the compensation.
