Shocking video footage has emerged of a stolen car narrowly missing people walking on a pathway as it sped through the Glitter Strip moments after the annual Carols by the Beach.

The footage, which was shared to TikTok, shows a stolen LDV wagon car attempting to plough through people walking on the pathway on Cavill Ave in Surfers Paradise on Sunday just after 8pm.

Gasps are heard through the video as the stolen car narrowly misses a group of people after mounting the pathway while going the wrong way through the popular night strip.

The car was stolen from Trickett St, Surfers Paradise at about 8.10pm before the thieves drove it the wrong way down Cavill Ave.

There it crashed into a parked car and a car stopped in a line of traffic before the wagon mounted the kerb, driving straight at pedestrians who were forced to jump out of the way.

Police tracked the car to Ferny Ave before it left the area.

The driver and passengers are yet to be caught by police

The silver wagon was found in Logan on Monday morning.

Gold Coast Police District Surfers Paradise officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Brad Rix said police condemned the behaviour to the “highest degree”.

“It’s certainly not something you want to see at this time or year or at any time and particularly in a highly populated area,” he said.

“When you have families on holidays enjoying the festive season we don’t want these types of people driving the wrong way down streets and footpaths.

“We definitely don’t want that.

“The descriptions are fairly limited at the moment – young males is the best description we have got at this point,” Sen Sgt Rix said.

He said he was relieved no one was hit or hurt.

“It's 10 past eight and we have just had the carols on the beach in Surfers Paradise so there was fairly dense foot traffic,” he said.

“Witnesses have described pedestrians having to jump out of the way.

“Very, very fortunate that no one was hurt whether on the footpath or in any of the motor vehicles.”

The car was not badly damaged when found.

“It was damaged – it had side swiped a couple of motor vehicles fairly consistent with slow speed collisions with stationary motor vehicles,” Sen Sgt Rix said.

“So it wasn’t too bad but it was definitely damaged.”

Police investigations are continuing, including viewing CCTV and forensically examining the car.

Any witnesses or with further information should contact Police Link on 131 444 or their nearest police station.
