Gold Coast residents have been told to avoid a popular beach as filming continues for a movie which is set to bring more than $10.7 million into the state’s economy.
Screen Queensland announced they were filming a “tense thriller” Dangerous Animals on the Gold Coast.
The film directed by Sean Byrne will star Hassie Harrison from Yellowstone, Jai Courtnery from Divergent, Josh Heaton from Heartbreak High and Ella Newton from Girl at the Window.
The movie follows a “free-spirited” surfer who gets abducted by a shark-obsessed serial killer.
Dangerous Animals filming crews had been spotted across the Gold Coast including Surfers Paradise.
On May 23, Rainbow Bay residents were told filming for the movie would take place from June 10 to June 11.
A map provided by City Laws Approval showed the filming at Snapper Rocks would impact parking and road access along Marine Parade.
“The production are aware that inconvenience may be caused by their activity and apologise in advance,” a City Laws Approval statement said.
“They are extremely grateful to the community of Rainbow Bay and sensitive to your concerns regarding light and noise disturbance.”
Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney said they were “proud” to be partnering with Brouhaha Entertainment after the success of previous project Boy Swallows Universe.
“With a storyline that is set on the Gold Coast as well as being made on the Gold Coast, Dangerous Animals is an exciting genre film that joins a slate of local screen stories including Gettin’ Square sequel Spit, Audrey, Black Snow and How to Make Gravy,” she said.
Arts Minister Leeane Enoch said the production supported the employment of 115 local cast, crew and creatives.
Brouhaha Entertainment spokesman Troy Lum said they “loved” working with the local talent on the Gold Coast.
“The Gold Coast offers everything we need to produce a world-class movie.”
