The owners of Rick Shores have announced a new Gold Coast restaurant, hosing down rumours they are abandoning their beloved Burleigh venue in the process.
The latest venture is planned as the showpiece in up-market Nobby Beach retail precinct The Oxley, which hosts its VIP opening celebrations tonight ahead of a public opening on Saturday.
Rick Shores owner Nick Woodward said they couldn’t share much information about the new – still to be named – venue but it would be a two-storey Latin American restaurant.
He said it would have a rooftop bar and private dining rooms.
“It is a new concept,” he said.
Mr Woodward squashed persistent rumours Rick Shores would be closing, which have intensified as Burleigh Pavilion’s Ben May pushes to redevelop the beachfront building’s ground level.
“We have a long-term lease in place for Rick Shores and the venue will be there (in its current location) for many years to come,” Mr Woodward said.
Executive chef James Brady said he had spent months in the world’s top Mexican and Latin American restaurants to research the project.
Mr Woodward said the new restaurant would open in mid 2024.
There’s not long to wait for stage one of The Oxley development, however, as it officially opens on December 2 after months of construction.
Tenants including the Oxley Village Grocer, Oxley Village Butcher, Oxley Village Deli, Oxley 1823 Sub Station and Buoy will make their debut this weekend.
Buoy owner Brodie Green said he would be pouring free coffee all Saturday to mark the opening of the centre.
“As a big thank you to Nobby Beach for welcoming us with open arms, we’re giving away free coffee all day this Saturday,” he said.
Mr Green – popular for his Burleigh Sea Dog coffee shops – said he was “excited” to be opening his largest cafe venture so far.
“From the moment I saw the renders from (developer) Daniel (Veitch) and his team, I was hooked,” he said.
“The original renders don’t do it justice.
“It’s turned into something pretty special.
“I haven’t seen anything on this level before on the Gold Coast."
On Saturday, The Oxley Village Butcher will be giving free chicken and gravy rolls from 11am to 1pm, Oxley 1823 Sub Station will offer a gratis scoop of gelato from 1pm to 3pm and there will be a petting zoo and face painting for the kids from 8am.
