POLICE have requested more time to gather forensic evidence against an elderly man accused of murdering his wife in their Varsity Lakes home in February.
Maxwell Beever, 82, had his matter mentioned briefly in the Southport Domestic and Family Violence Court on Friday morning.
He has been charged with murder.
It is alleged Beever murdered his wife Robyn Beever using a belt or pair of jeans. An axe was also allegedly found at the scene.

Police will also allege Mrs Beever was dragged from the bedroom of the home and found in the garage near the back of a car.
Her husband was later charged with murder, accused of killing Mrs Beever as early as 6pm on Wednesday, February 24.
She was not found until 1.30pm on Thursday, February 25 when police and emergency services were confronted with a “bloody scene” at the Gerona Circuit property.
On Friday morning, Beever did not appear in court for the mention. It is understood he is still in hospital.
Police asked for more time to finish compiling forensic evidence.
The matter was adjourned until August 6.
