THE team behind a pioneering new brewery and restaurant on the Gold Coast spent about $70,000 and 18 months convincing Gold Coast City Council to give the venue the go-ahead.
Scott Imlach, Simone Tunbridge, Michael Craighead, Jeremy James and Tom Welch almost gave up on opening industrial-style Precinct Brewing at Miami, a first-of-its-kind Coast brewpub concept.

“The idea was born about three years ago and we went looking for sites,” Mr Imlach said.
“Council permission was the hard part, it took ages, about 18 months to get it through council from start to finish and about $70,000 in the end.
“Things just kept going to and fro, backwards and forwards.
“Council couldn’t work out how to put a restaurant in an industrial area and a brewery in a restaurant area. Combining them together, that was a first for the Gold Coast.

“It was just a lot of time wasting. I nearly gave up, I was ready to walk away.”
But the team forged ahead against the odds, thanks to a push by Mr Welch, and they now plan to open the doors of the Christine Ave brewery on Friday, December 4.
Mr Imlach, the man behind a range of venues in the city, was thrilled it would come shortly after the dismantling of Queensland’s border checkpoints and reopening of the state to Sydney and Victoria.
“We’re hoping it’s going to do really well. You never know until you open (venues), but it’s a schmick looking set up,” Mr Imlach chuckled.
“We’re still a little restricted with hours, but we’re hoping to increase them as time goes on.”
Former Stone & Wood brewer Mr James and the crew plan to push out a new beer on Fridays and there will be up to 16 different beers on tap at a time, including guest brewer creations.
Beers will not be sold wholesale at this stage, but customers can take home cans or growlers of rice lager, XPA, hazy IPA, pale ale and other brews.

Precinct will have also a bar fully stocked with wines, cocktails, spirits and seltzers.
The restaurant includes about 100 seats, including old church pews, and a will serve up pizza, fried chicken and more.
Precinct Brewing will operate 4-10pm on weekdays and 11am to midnight on weekends.
