POPULAR waterhole Killarney Glen will remain closed two weeks after a man drowned during a holiday swim.
Emergency services were called to the hinterland attraction on December 30 to reports a young man had not surfaced while swimming.
The Department of Defence closed the area after the tragedy with plans to review the decision today.
The department announced this morning that the area would remain closed indefinitely.
A Defence spokesman said the recent drowning tragedy at Killarney Glen had further highlighted risks to public safety from some activities at the waterholes.
He said the Killarney Glen waterholes, which are situated within the Canungra Field Training Area, would remain closed to public access until an adequate and appropriate management solution was determined.
He could give no indication when a solution was likely to be identified, saying that a number of commissioned reports were being considered and advice sought from expert third parties in what will be an exhaustive and careful process
The area has become increasingly popular due to social media with many international tourists visiting the falls and waterhole each year.
Safety, parking and maintenance have long been issues in the area.
