Fuel price hike inbound for Queensland

GOLD Coast motorists are being told to fill up now, with petrol prices suddenly skyrocketing across the city.

The cost of unleaded 91 leapt to nearly $1.70 a litre in parts of the Gold Coast at lunchtime on Saturday, delivering a nasty shock to unsuspecting drivers.

The northern suburbs were the first to hike up prices with a handful of outlets offering fuel for more than 30 cents above average.

7 Eleven and Woolworths at Ormeau, BP Oxenford, Caltex Helensvale and 7 Eleven Pimpama led the rise at 167.9 cents per litre (cpl).

At the same time other outlets were still offering fuel for 134.7cpl around Southport, Arundel and Helensvale.

The RACQ’s “fair fuel price” was 134.9cpl.

It comes just three days after Brisbane recorded its highest fuel price in six months as prices spiked at 167.9 cpl.

Across the River City today prices were still sky-high across a number of petrol stations.

Prices are expected to remain high for some time on the back of rising global crude prices in response to US President Donald Trump’s sanctions on international oil producers.
