THE identity of a young man tragically killed in a horrific workplace explosion on the Gold Coast has been revealed, with his sister posting an emotional tribute to her brother.

Kyah McDonald, 21, was among three men injured when a truck burst into flames at Gold Coast Isuzu on Tuesday.

Mr McDonald suffered severe burns to 90 percent of his body and died in Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital overnight Tuesday.

His sister Holly told of her devastation on Wednesday in a heart-felt Facebook post.

“To my big brother .. I can’t even comprehend losing you this early in life. You truly brought so much joy to all of our lives and I want to thank you for being such a kind, funny and overall big brother.

“I’m speechless, no words can describe the pain our family is going through right now.. Not one person in this world didn’t like you. Rest peacefully now, I love you. 21 forever.”

Another woman, Holly Wickham, posted a heartfelt tribute alongside a photo: “You are my love, always.”

EARLIER: A young man has died following a horrific workplace explosion at a Gold Coast vehicle dealership, suffering burns to over 90 per cent of his body.

Paramedics treated the critically injured man and two other men suffering burns after the explosion and fire at a Gold Coast Isuzu.

Police confirmed the 21-year-old died from his injuries in a Brisbane hospital overnight.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) was called to the workplace fire on Newheath Dr near Kingston Dr at Arundel about 8am on Tuesday, a spokeswoman said.

The Gold Coast Isuzu, where the fire broke out, was closed to the public on Wednesday with signs saying it would re-open on October 31.

The Bulletin saw investigators enter the site.

An Energex truck was also driven from the complex and parked on the side of the road.

The driver declined to comment.

Gold Coast Isuzu, overseen by ASX-listed Peter Warren Automotive Holdings, which has since issued a statement.

The business stated: “Peter Warren Automotive Holdings (ASX: PWR) advises that following an explosion on the Gold Coast at its Arundel facility, two employees have suffered severe injuries and other employees are also receiving medical treatment.

“The company is focused on supporting our people and their families and ensuring that they are getting the best care and medical attention,” the statement read.

“The safety and wellbeing of our employees is our highest priority.”

Two firefighting crews worked to extinguish the blaze which began inside a commercial building.

The fire was extinguished by 8.10am and firefighters then dampened down the area.

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics treated the 21-year-old for widespread and “significant” burn injuries. It’s understood he suffered over 90 per cent burns to his body.

He was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition, a spokeswoman said. Two more men also suffered burns of varying seriousness.

A man, 19, was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition, suffering burns to his face, torso and an arm.

Paramedics also took a 33-year-old man to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition suffering burns to one of his hands.

A fourth man was assessed but not taken to hospital.

The High Acuity Response Unit and critical care paramedics were part of the QAS response.

The business declared a “full investigation” was being undertaken and it had been
working with authorities.

Queensland Police Service officers did attend, but a spokesman directed all questions to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ).

WHSQ investigators were assisting emergency services at Gold Coast Isuzu, a spokeswoman said.

A Workplace Health and Safety Queensland spokeswoman said investigations into the explosion were continuing.

“The cause of the explosion remains unclear at this time,” she said.

The spokeswoman said investigations at the site had continued.

However, signs at Gold Coast Isuzu indicated the business would be closed until Monday.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland will prepare a report for the coroner.
