DESIGNS have been unveiled for a giant expansion of the Varsity Lakes railway station’s car park.
And the State Government is about to call tenders for a multimillion-dollar expansion of Ormeau park-n-ride facilities.
Carparking at the Varsity Lakes station, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this month, is being expanded, with temporary spaces added for the 2018 Commonwealth Games becoming permanent fixtures.

Under the plans released by the State Government, more than 185 car spaces will be added to the station, including the 81 from the Games.
The works will increase the station's capacity to more than 650.
“During our Commonwealth Games a number of temporary car parks were opened at Varsity Lakes station to accommodate travelling visitors and staff, and I am pleased to announce they will now become permanent fixtures together with 185 brand new spaces,” Gaven MP Meaghan Scanlon said.

The Government will call tenders next week for a $4.2 million expansion of the Ormeau railway station’s park-n-ride facilities.
It plans to add 110 car spaces to the station, bringing its total to 375.
Transport Minister Mark Bailey said the project would create 14 jobs.
“This is a significant investment in Gold Coast public transport that further demonstrates we are taking necessary steps to help ease congestion as the region continues to grow,” he said.
“We are investing in new stations on the Gold Coast and more than $114 million for park-n-ride upgrades across the southeast.”
Earlier this year the Government announced plans for three new railway stations on the Coast at Helensvale North, Merrimac and Pimpama.
The Pimpama station will be off the old Gold Coast Highway while the Merrimac station will be located in Gooding Drive, about 750m east of the Pacific Motorway and Gooding Drive interchange.
The Helensvale North station will be next to Mangrove Jack Park, off Hope Island Road.
