Police have revealed new information on a weekend collision on the Gold Coast, confirming it was not a ‘hit and run’ as first reported.

POLICE have confirmed the circumstances surrounding a weekend crash on the southern Gold Coast that left a teenage girl in hospital.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Nineteenth and Townsend Aves in Palm Beach about 3.40pm Sunday, after a 15-year-old girl riding a bicycle collided with a vehicle.

The girl was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with neck pain and minor grazes.

Police initially reported the incident as a “hit and run”, but a QPS spokeswoman said on Tuesday that further investigation had revealed the incident was far less sinister.

“The bike was travelling in the bike lane along Townsend Ave, turned left into Nineteenth and the bike has collided with (the car’s) door,” the spokeswoman said.

“It looks like the driver and passenger have asked whether she was okay – she’s said yes, so they’ve left.”

The spokeswoman said the driver then came back past the scene about 15 minutes later and saw paramedics attending to the girl.

He stopped and provided his details to the relevant authorities.

No charges were laid. Police have not indicated that they will continue investigating the incident.
