Specialist hazmat crews are still working to determine the source of a large chemical spill at a Yatala commercial site.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) attended the incident on Access Ave about 11am on Wednesday morning.

Initial reports to authorities suggested approximately 200 litres of sodium hydroxide had fallen off the back of a truck and spilt on the driveway to the premises.

Four hazmat crews including the specialist scientific unit spent about three hours at the address containing the spill and decontaminating the site, a QFES spokeswoman said.
