New look for Mermaid Beach supertower Elegance as $400m Gold Coast development pushes ahead

A $400 million supertower project earmarked for a long-empty Gold Coast site is set to take on a new look as it moves closer to becoming a reality.

A $400 MILLION twin-tower development focusing on health and wellbeing is finally set to become a reality.

The Elegance development, put forward by the Chinese Government-linked Hubei United Development was first proposed two years ago but is now moving forward with a new look.

The project has already been approved by the council be the developer last month filed a revised development application featuring minor changes to the towers, which are between 45 and 50 storeys.

Among the changes were changes to the plaza and tower design, a slight increase in one of the building’s height and a decrease in the number of permanent apartments.

The number of short term Accommodation units is to increase.

Hubei, based in Wuhan city in Hubei province, is to build the 45- and 50-level towers on a former Hungry Jack’s site at 2605 Gold Coast Highway.

The 3783sq m site, which also fronts Mermaid Ave, was bought by Hubei subsidiary UMB Properties at $34.1 million last year.

The Elegance towers will house 536 apartments sitting above three levels of restaurants, shops, offices and recreation facilities.

The retail precinct is to include health food and vitamin shops, organic cafes, massage parlours and a naturopath.

Facilities expected to be available to residents would include day spas, indoor and outdoor meditation rooms, libraries, yoga studios and Zen gardens.

The developer previous announced it hoped to complete the towers by 2020
