Police have seized a luxury vehicle after a two-car smash sparked a helicopter hunt for the driver at Runaway Bay.

The male driver of the Mercedes was yet to be located on Sunday morning, following the crash with a BMW station wagon and a pole around 8.30pm on Saturday.

No injuries were reported in the smash, on Bayview St, near the intersection of Broadwater St.

Police are investigating reports the Mercedes may have been stolen.

Locals in the area reported seeing and hearing the police helicopter circling the area, warning each other to lock their doors as the driver remained on the run.

Meanwhile, a woman in her 40s was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital following a house fire at Pacific Pines.

The woman suffered smoke inhalation in the blaze, which was contained to a rear bedroom of the home on McAuley Pde around 9pm.

No other injuries were reported.
