Gold Coaster’s put on a show at the Turf Club for Melbourne Cup celebrations, flaunting their style and fabulous fascinators. See the pictures.

The Melbourne Cup - it’s about winning, on and off the track.

And John Schultz, 75 was as “ecstatic” as anyone to win the fashion on the field event at the JW Marriott Gold Coast’s Cup Day function alongside Katrinia Anderson.

Mr Schultz was wearing a straw brimmed hat, with his finest suit jacket and tan pants and Ms Anderson dazzled in a pink lace midi dress, and a pink feathered fascinator.

They were among the bold and bright as Gold Coasters put on a show in venues across the city for Melbourne Cup celebrations.

The Gold Coast Turf Club opened their doors for a day of live racing and televised viewing of the action at Flemington racecourse in Melbourne.

Kylie Littman, in her first year on the Turf Club’s Fashions on the Field runway, took a creative approach to the friendly competition.

“I actually made my outfit - we decided to come for the day and it’s the fashion that appeals so we put in some effort and thought we’d enter,” she said.

Another competitor said she “walked into Spotlight and saw this fabric down the bottom of the rack” and decided to use it for her dress.

Elegance of opulence were the theme of the day, with attendees of the event entertained by a live band and a fashion on the field show by international designer Liz Clift.

Liz Clift’s daughter Michelle Massey said the colour and vibe of the event had been “amazing.”

“She (Ms Clift) dragged me away from businesses for the day. Everyone is dressed so elegantly,” she said.
