Two Gold Coast locals are set to shake things up as they enter the world of reality television.

Kale Roberts and Reid Polak were selected as the two sole male contestants to enter the Love Island Australia villa as season five “bombs”.

“Being a bomb means you’re sent in there to stir things up,” Roberts said.

“I’m not typically known to stir things up, I’m a pretty chill guy,” the 24-year-old admits.

Revealing he’s a “pretty confident” person, Roberts said he went in to have “as much fun as possible”

“One of my friends told me I should apply, so I went for it,” he said.

“I thought, ‘Well I can’t lose anything,’ so I put my application in and here we are.

Polak admits his Love Island application was driven by a break-up.

“It was the fourth time Love Island reached out to me,” he said.

“The first couple of times I said ‘no’ because I was quite green and young, and didn’t think I could talk well.

“Last year I was in a relationship, but we broke up in March so I thought ‘why not?’.

“This is the fourth time lucky,” he laughed.

The 26-year-old personal trainer said the transition between the break-up and reality TV was easy.

“To be fair the break-up was quite messy, so it was very easy for me to move past that situation,” he said.

“You don’t always get asked to go on a show and I didn’t want to get to 28 or 29 and think ‘woulda, coulda, shoulda’, so I thought I’d give this a go.”

The local boys both agreed their time on the reality show was one of the best life experiences they had had.

Love Island season five premieres on October 30 on Nine.
