When an argument with strangers in a Logan park over dangerous scooter riding erupted, a father and son duo bashed the group, at one point punching a woman in the face.

Steven George Cameron pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on April 19 to two counts of grievous bodily harm and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The 48-year-old’s son Zane Steven Cameron, 21, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning bodily harm in company and common assault in November last year.

The court heard that on November 16, 2020 Marsden man Zane Cameron was travelling to an IGA in Crestmead with two friends on e-scooters when he encountered a frustrated driver.

The driver was angry at their manner of driving on the scooters and confronted them at the shop.

The court heard the woman grabbed a pole and chased them into the park while yelling, before neighbours came to assist.

Zane Cameron phoned his dad who then arrived and escalated the conflict.

“I’ve called my dad, youse’ are all f----d”, said Zane Cameron to the group in the park.

Zane’s father Steven Cameron punched the woman in the face and kicked the man in the side.

Zane Cameron then punched the other neighbour and jumped on his head as the man protected his face, the woman came to his aid and the group started swinging fists at her.

The man suffered fractures to his wrist and a hemorrhage and the woman had bruising to the jaw and chin.

Crown prosecutor Samantha O’Rourke said Steven Cameron’s behaviour was an act of gratuitous violence.

“This was street violence committed by a mature man on two complainants causing bodily harm”

Judge Craig Chowdhury said a mature father should have deescalated the conflict not made it worse.

“This sort of violence goes on too much in our community,” he said.

“You should have grabbed your son by the scruff of the neck and taken him away from the scene

“The courts have to deal with the washup though.”

Steven Cameron was sentenced to two years prison, released immediately on parole for two years.

Zane Cameron was sentenced to three years prison, wholly suspended and placed on probation for two years.

He was also ordered to pay $6000 in compensation to the victims within 18 months.
