A man in custody for the alleged murder of his wife with a tractor in a town near Beaudesert has faced court again, as police allege he interfered with the corpse.

Yadwinder Singh, 44, had his matters mentioned in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on June 5 after he was charged with one count of murder (domestic violence offence) and misconduct with corpse by interfering.

Police alleged that on February 15 Mr Singh murdered his 41-year-old wife Amarjit Kaur Sardar by running her over with a cane slasher at their property in Woodhill.

They also alleged he attempted to cover up the crime by moving the body and interfering with it.

Defence lawyer Adrian Hillier said Mr Singh remained in custody and a brief of evidence had not been received yet from prosecution.

“Mr Singh is on remand. We’ve not yet received a brief of evidence and are seeking a four-week adjournment,” she said.

Magistrate Terry Duroux said there might be a jurisdictional issue if the charges were contested as the matter would have to be transferred to Beaudesert Magistrates Court.

Mr Singh’s matters were adjourned to July 3 in Beenleigh Magistrates Court.

Detective Inspector Chris Knight said on the day of the arrest, Mr Singh called triple-0 to report the death of his wife and a recording of that phone call had been listened to by investigators.

“There were some observations that our investigators made on our initial triage with the scene that gave us concerns that there may have been some manipulation of the crime scene,” he said.

The couple had two teenage children.

Local residents of the farming town were shocked when they heard the gruesome news of a neighbour’s death.

“I would never have expected this to happen in Woodhill, it’s so quiet and peaceful,” publican Leon Mills said at the time.
