A driver involved in a hit and run at Logan on Friday remains on the run more than 24 hours after a pedestrian was struck and later died in hospital

A 23-year-old Daisy Hill woman died in hospital after she was struck by a four-wheel drive on a footpath in Daisy Hill just before 9am on Friday, July 19.

Police said the driver of a silver Toyota SUV, travelling on Allamanda Drive at Daisy Hill, left the scene of the crash.

They appealed for the driver to come forward.

Paramedics arrived at the scene, near the Daisy Hill Shopping Centre and the Slacks Creek Football Club just before 9am.

The injured pedestrian was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital where she was treated for critical head injuries.

Acting Inspector Matthew Scott said the victim, a woman in her 20s, was struck from behind on footpath.

“She was walking along the footpath, going about her daily business,” he said.

Speaking about the driver who allegedly fled the scene of the crash, Acting Inspector Scott said:

“It lacks a lot of empathy, compassion.

“This particular victim is a daughter, she’s a sister and I’m sure we can all relate to that … she’s just been left on the side of the road … it’s a very sad state of affairs,” he said.

Acting Inspector Scott said a witness stopped and attempted to render assistance.

He said when emergency services arrived the woman was “unconscious”.

“She has remained (unconscious),” Acting Inspector Scott said.

“At this present time forensic examinations are being conducted and the results from that will take a little bit of time to determine those factors such as speed or driver behaviour.

“We have had a witness come forward and advise us that the driver was a female.”

Acting Inspector Scott said police were appealing for the driver of that car to come forward.

“The vehicle is described as a silver Toyota SUV or 4WD consistent with being a Prado,” he said.

Debris was left strewn on the road, including a purse.

Police investigations were continuing.
