A Falcon sedan with its roof cut off, seen skidding with four occupants, was one of the incidents police reported during a night-time crackdown on hoons on Brisbane’s southside.
Over the weekend, police dispersed a group of more than 20 vehicles and spectators using some of the state’s busiest highways.
They charged four men after tailing the group across the southeast from Logan to Rocklea.
One vehicle involved in the alleged skidding was confiscated and towed away.
Police started their surveillance in Logan on Saturday after spotting a group of about 20 vehicles at Mercantile Drive in Park Ridge.
The modified Ford was abandoned in Marsden, and the alleged driver was apprehended and taken into custody at a Logan address.
Police said members of the group left the scene and took off on the Mount Lindsay Highway towards Rocklea.
They then disbanded a group at Grindle Road, Rocklea, where spectators were watching cars being driven.
Inspector Glenn Ryder from the Logan Police District alleged that the large group engaged in dangerous driving, putting the public “at significant risk of injury.”
“A Falcon sedan with its roof cut off was witnessed being used for skidding with four to five occupants,” he said.
“This modification posed significant safety risks, leading us to prioritise its intervention.”
A 22-year-old Loganlea man was charged with driving without a license, and a 19-year-old Waterford West man was charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle and other driving offences, including being unlicensed.
Both men are due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 3.
A 20-year-old Park Ridge man has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, receiving tainted property, and other offences related to obstructing police and driving an uninsured vehicle.
He is due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on October 29.
An 18-year-old Loganlea man was also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and participating in a hooning event.
He is due to appear in Holland Park Magistrates Court on September 6.
