Police are hunting for a gang who went on a crime spree across Logan over night.
Police said the gang forced their way into Grand Plaza Shopping Centre at Browns Plains just after 2am and then smashed their way into Michael Hill Jewellery store before heading east to the Pacific Highway and raiding a service station at Loganholme.
Staff at Michael Hill Jewellery, inside the Grand Plaza Shopping Centre, were assessing damages and cleaning up smashed glass from the front display window on Wednesday.
A notice on the front door said the shop would remain closed until Thursday, August 1 “due to unforeseen circumstances”.
Traders at the next door store, Goldmark Jewellers, were in shock after the early morning raid but said their premises had not been affected.
“It has been very busy this morning and the police are still onsite dusting for fingerprints and checking CCTV footage,” one shopkeeper said.
Browns Plains resident and shopper Jane Burton said she was always careful about where she parked within the centre.
“It seems that crime is on the rise in this area and I always make sure I park near CCTV cameras so my car is under surveillance,” she said.
Police said a number of items were stolen from the jewellers before the gang fled the scene in a blue utility and a dark-coloured SUV.
They then travelled to a service station at Loganholme, where police said they stolen cash and cigarettes just after 3am.
Grand Plaza centre management said they were assisting police and working to ensure public safety.
