Vaea Taavale remembered after Centenary Hwy double fatal on Mother’s Day

Family and friends have given emotional tributes after a 22-year-old was identified as the second of two men killed in a tragic Mother’s Day crash on the Centenary Highway, west of Brisbane.

Family and friends have given an emotional tribute to a young man killed in a tragic Mother’s Day crash on the Centenary Highway.

Vaea Taavale, a 22-year-old from Marsden, was one of two men who passed away in the crash between Springfield and White Rock about 6.20am Sunday, where two vehicles collided head-on.

A third vehicle was then unable to stop and collided with the other vehicles and a third man and two women have been left in a critical condition.

Mr Taavale and 30-year-old Mount Warren Park man Anthony Cooper both died at the scene.

Since the tragic crash, tributes have flooded in for Mr Taavale, who was also a talented young rugby league player.

“It is with great sadness that our family announce the passing of our beloved brother Vaea,” his brother said.

“Unfortunately our brother gained his wings early hours of this morning.”

Hundreds of friends have also remembered the young man on social media.

“Just seeing the news and found out you passed uce was shocking, life is way too short, and our last message was just last month. Was mad playing against you at Mustangs too and you only just started playing for Wynnum, we used to mock each other at work and muck around but man gone too soon lil uso, RIP Vaea Taavale,” one post said.

“R.I.P. Vaea Taavale, fly high my bro,” another post said.

The Wynnum Manly Seagulls Juniors Brisbane Rugby League A Grade team, who Mr Taavale played for, also paid tribute this morning.

“It is with great sadness we announce that on the early hours of Sunday morning Wynnum player Vaea Taavale tragically passed away,” the post said.

“An up and coming young player with enormous potential who after a few early season set backs recently returned and was back to make an impression in the BRL competition.

“Players and coaching staff a deeply shocked and saddened by his sudden passing.

“The Wynnum football club and community pass on our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest Easy Big V.”

The Forensic Crash unit is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have dashcam vision to come forward.
