One of two men killed in a “confronting” crash on the Centenary Hwy on Mother’s Day has been identified as Anthony Cooper.

The crash occurred between Springfield and White Rock about 6.20am Sunday when two vehicles collided head-on and a third vehicle was unable to stop and collided with one of the those vehicles.

Two men died while a third man and two women were left in a critical condition.

Mr Cooper has been remembered as a “good man” by his friend Ty Graham. The two met a few years ago and would often work on cars together.

“He always helped others when he could … he made sure his friends and family always had what they needed … he had a big impact on everyone.”

Mr Graham said Mr Cooper has struggled with his mental health for years but had started dating a new partner a day before the crash.

“He was a person who had recently gotten out of a bad mental health space after being in there for years … he started a business and started to turn his life around,” Mr Graham said.

“He helped me through my own struggle with mental health.”

Queensland Ambulance Service senior operations supervisor Kevin Morgan said the crash site was “quite confronting” when he first arrived.

“Especially given the amount of people that were trapped in the vehicles,” he said.

“An off-duty paramedic was the first one on scene this morning,” Mr Morgan said.

A 32-year-old Deebing Heights woman who was a passenger in the eastbound Mazda was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with serious injuries.

A second passenger in the Mazda, a 28-year-old man from Camira was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the third vehicle, also a Mitsubishi, a 24-year-old woman from Ripley, was transported to Ipswich General Hospital in a stable condition.
