A Logan dad has faced court after his homegrown, garage cannabis growing set-up was brought down by police who found 13.2kg of plants.

Troy Matthew Wilson, 51, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on April 18 to producing and possessing a dangerous drug in excess of 500g.

He also pleaded one guilty to another charge of possession of a dangerous drug.

The court heard the Browns Plains father of two’s home was raided by police on February 24, 2022.

Police found 49 cannabis plants, 40 of which were in his garage in a sophisticated, hydroponic set-up.

Wilson’s grow room had irrigation trays and fertiliser.

He had 1.2kg of loose cannabis, 13.2kg of plants, 2.5g of oil and 1.5g of methamphetamine.

Police found cannabis seeds in a bucket in his living room.

The court heard Wilson accepted the seriousness of his offending and had been sentenced in 2019 for growing cannabis.

Wilson had significant anxiety and was using cannabis to self-medicate but had shied away from getting help from medical professionals, his lawyer said.

Wilson formerly worked as a store man, a delivery driver and was at one point a bus driver for the Brisbane City Council.

He was a father of two and had been with his wife for 26 years.

Judge Craig Chowdhury said cannabis was not the benign drug a lot of the community believed.

“It’s disappointing to see you back here. I sentenced you in 2019 for producing cannabis,” he said.

“The courts need to send a message to the community that this is not acceptable.”

Wilson was sentenced to 12 months prison, wholly suspended, and released him immediately on parole for one year.
