A Logan drug dealer addicted to cannabis and Xanax was busted by police with almost 2kg of cannabis and other drugs by cops who saw him smoking a bong in his car.

Tommi James Apogremiotis pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on June 5 to four counts of possession of a dangerous drug and one count of contravening an order about information stored electronically.

The court heard that on August 26, 2022, the 24-year-old Marsden man was caught by police smoking a bong in his car at Greenbank.

Officers then searched his car and found 1.65kg of cannabis, separated into pound amounts for commercial use.

They also found another 250g of pot in loose, smaller packages.

Police also discovered fentanyl, oxycontin, diazepam, various amphetamines and $788 in cash.

The court heard that a week later, on September 6, officers were questioning Apogremiotis and asked to see the contents of his mobile phone, but he refused to provide them with the PIN number.

Defence barrister David Funch said his client began using cannabis at age 14 and then became addicted to Xanax after trying it when still only 16.

“He is now completely clean of drugs and has made significant changes. He is on the right path now,” he said.

The court heard Apogremiotis worked as a mechanic before Covid and was currently employed as a project assistant.

Judge Vicki Loury said cannabis and its sale for commercial use caused concerning issues in society.

“Cannabis can cause serious problems in our community in terms of its damaging effects and the criminal element,” she said.

“Your offending is aggravated by refusing to provide your PIN number to police.

“You will not have to serve an actual custodial term but if you use cannabis again, you will go to jail.”

Apogremiotis was sentenced to 18 months’ prison and released immediately on parole.
