A young Ipswich truck driver lost his job after launching into a violent road rage where he damaged another truck and spat in the driver’s face, a court heard.

Springfield Lakes man Timothy James McInnes, 26, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday to one count of common assault and wilful damage.

The court heard McInnes got involved in a road rage incident with a truck driver completing a delivery to Woolworths in Pimpama on August 13.

Police prosecutor Tahlia Boettcher said the truck driver was travelling along Yawalpah Rd when he merged his vehicle ahead of McInnes, who was travelling in a Toyota Kluger, at 1pm.

McInnes pulled his car in front of the truck and forced him to stop in the middle of the road before getting out and confronting the truck driver.

“The defendant was extremely angry and aggressive and has begun to abuse the victim,” Ms Boettcher said.

“The defendant was yelling words to the effect of: You should have allowed me to pass.”

McInnes then spat directly in the truck driver’s face before getting back in his car.

The court heard McInnes then followed the truck to the Woolworths loading dock.

While yelling and swearing, McInnes used his hands to snap off the truck’s driver side mirror while the driver locked himself inside.

McInnes’ lawyer told the court his client was also a truck driver himself and had lost his job after the road rage incident was reported to his employers.

Magistrate Louise Shephard said she noted that he had no criminal history.

“Whilst there might not be a physical injury resulting to spit in someone’s face is a terribly degrading act,” she said.

He was placed on a period of probation and ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid community service. No convictions were recorded.
