A Redland security guard has been disqualified from driving after causing a drunk prang in the middle of the night while nearly three times the alcohol limit, hospitalising himself and his young passenger.
Shane Warner Adamson, 52, pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while being above the middle alcohol limit but not over high alcohol limit and appeared before Beenleigh Magistrates Court to apply for a driving to work license.
A police prosecutor said Adamson was driving on Wuduru Rd, Cornubia on January 30, 2024.
“He caused a traffic crash with injury when his silver Nissan Tulsa crashed into an embankment,” the Sergeant said.
“Police arrived to the scene at 2.23am and the driver identified himself as the defendant.
“Queensland Ambulance attended the scene and Adamson admitted to police that he had been drinking alcohol prior to driving,” she said.
Adamson was required to provide breath and blood samples which after analysis revealed a blood alcohol reading of 0.133 per cent, nearly three times the legal limit.
“He and his passenger was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment,” the Sergeant said.
His passenger was a female in her 20s.
Adamson, who represented himself, said he regretted his actions.
“I need my license to travel to various events where I crowd control as a security guard,” Adamson said.
“I also do DoorDash,” he said.
Magistrate Gary Finger said he understood a complete license disqualification would severely impact Adamson’s ability to work.
“I take into account your early plea of guilty,” Magistrate Finger said.
“You have been without a license since February 27, 2024,” he said.
Adamson was ordered to pay a $1000 fine and was disqualified from driving for seven months.
He was granted a restricted license to drive to and from work.
Convictions were recorded.
