The case against five men accused of attempted murder in an alleged Logan gang shooting last year, has taken a twist, as investigators wait for “crucial’’ evidence on a USB device, a court has heard.
Humza Ali Ahmed, 36, was charged with attempted murder over an alleged gang shooting on July 13, 2023 in Underwood.
The Crestmead man, who remained in custody, was charged alongside alleged co-offenders Hamzah Sayed, Riad Naaman, Ghazi Wesam Naaman and Hameed Ayobi.
Howden Saggers law clerk Sophia Dreese said barrister Alistair McDougall had been briefed and prosecution was awaiting findings from a critical USB device.
“It was previously adjourned to allow time for prosecution to provide further, critical material,” she said.
“Our principals advised yesterday afternoon there was a USB with material available for collection.”
Queensland Police allege that on the afternoon of July 13 at Underwood shots were fired from a Toyota HiLux on Nevilles St at a man in a carpark.
Police alleged the man pulled out a firearm and returned fire before the HiLux, along with a Mitsubishi Outlander, left the scene.
A police spokesperson said they believed the alleged gang members in the car went to “sort him out”.
Magistrate Terry Duroux said the matters involving the four co-accused and Mr Ahmed would be mentioned in August.
He granted an adjournment until June 19 for a committal mention.
“Counsel is instructed there are four other co-accused and we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it,” Mr Duroux said.
Mr Ahmed was remanded in custody. The four alleged co-accused were previously granted bail in the Supreme Court, with their matters to be mentioned in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on August 28.
