A Logan man who set up cameras at his home to spy on his girlfriend, after accusing her of cheating, smashed her front door as well a court has heard.

Nathan Scott William McKay pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on April 9 to using a carriage service to menace or harass, observation in breach of privacy and wilful damage.

Nathan Scott William McKay pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on April 9 to using a carriage service to menace or harass, observation in breach of privacy and wilful damage (domestic violence offences).

The court heard the 37-year-old father of two set up cameras in a room at home to record his girlfriend in 2021.

He also broke his girlfriend’s front door after an argument about a vape and hurled a torrent of verbal abuse at her.

The court heard he yelled at her “go f--k yourself s--t, I’ll make sure your kids never see you again”.

Police prosecutor Kalinda Cheung said the offences were very concerning.

“The charge is disturbing and serious. It carries a maximum penalty of three years prison,” he said.

The court heard McKay started using cannabis early in his life and then started to use methamphetamine, to which he became addicted.

He worked as an excavator and labourer after moving from Mackay to Brisbane as a 14-year-old.

Magistrate Shane Elliot said the behaviour was alarming.

“This was concerning offending. I accept you have no history of domestic violence but it is still aggravated,” he said.

“Men need to understand that this is domestic violence. What I read here is disgusting.”

McKay was sentenced to an 18-month probation order. A conviction was recorded.
