A Logan man charged in connection with a 35kg, $4.7 million methamphetamine bust on the Gold Coast last month has been named for the first time.

Todd Douglas Riley, 44, faced Beenleigh Magistrates Court on April 8 charged with possessing dangerous drugs, possessing property obtained from proceeds, possession of things used and possessing drug utensils.

The Eagleby man was arrested after police found Jemma-Lee Sales allegedly in possession of 35kg of methamphetamine on March 18 in Mudgeeraba.

The drugs had an estimated street value of $4.7 million.

Police later went to Mr Riley’s home where they allegedly found 1kg of cannabis as well as drug paraphernalia.

The court heard a brief of evidence would be ordered on all charges.

The matter was adjourned for mention in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on May 29.

Magistrate Pamela Dowse ordered a brief of evidence be presented by May 20.

“You’ll need a certificate of analysis to test the purity of the drug,” she said.

The court heard that about 7.30pm on March 19, detectives from the Crime and Intelligence Command, Drug and Serious Crime Group intercepted a Toyota Rav 4 on the Pacific Motorway.

It will be alleged police found two large sports bags containing 35 bags of methylamphetamine concealed in packages to look like imported tea.

A total of about 35kg of the drug was seized.

Ms Sales was granted bail in Southport Magistrates Court on March 22 under several strict conditions including living with a family friend at Beenleigh, wearing an electronic monitoring device and possessing only one mobile phone.

The court was told her father-in-law would also pay a surety of $100,000.

Her case will return to court on March 28.
