A Logan high school teacher charged with rape and child grooming has been hit with new charges as he faced court for the first time.

Marsden State High School maths teacher Jason Seung Hak Lee appeared before magistrate Zac Sarra, to face eight charges in three matters.

He was first charged with two counts of rape and one count of grooming a child under 16 to take part in a sexual act in July this year.

When the matter was briefly mentioned this morning, five fresh charges were listed for the first time.

Those charges relate to one count of indecent treatment (filming) of a child under 16, one count of indecent treatment (permit) of a child under 16, one count of possessing child exploitation material, and two counts of rape.

It was the teacher’s first appearance after he was excused from appearing to face the grooming charges last week.

No pleas have been entered on any of the charges.

The baby-faced 29-year-old, who has been suspended from his role and is on bail, was accompanied by his mother.

He sat at the back of the court with his lawyer and appeared with head bowed.

His lawyers said they were still waiting on the full police prosecution brief but expected all matters to proceed through a registry committal process depending on the quality of the police brief.

Magistrate Sarra said the matters were all serious allegations which would be resolved in a higher court and adjourned the matter for a committal mention on November 25, giving both police and the defence adequate time, with the police brief to be finalised before November 18.

“Police are very stressed and stretched at the moment and from previous experience, we set these agendas but they often get misplaced,” Mr Sarra said.

“I think it is in the best interests of everyone that they have time to prepare the materials and I don’t want (the lawyers) reading the material at the last minute as they are walking through the door.”

It is alleged the teacher used an online chat platform, including Snapchat, to communicate with a 14-year-old girl, before they met twice in June.

It has been alleged that Lee dressed to pose as a teen to chat to teen girls who he lavished with praise over weeks before asking them to send him photos of themselves naked via online platforms.

Lee, whose online CV listed that he previously worked at Beenleigh State High School, was alleged to also have gained the girls’ trust by leading them to believe he was a slightly older boy who found them attractive before encouraging them to send the compromising photos of themselves.
