A Logan high school teacher facing two counts of rape and a grooming charge has been granted bail to appear for a committal mention next week.

Marsden State High School maths teacher Jason Seung Hak Lee, 29, did not enter a plea and did not appear before Wynnum Acting Magistrate Sue Ganasan on Monday, September 16.

He stands accused of trying to persuade or help a child under 16 to take part in a sexual act with court documents showing a grooming charge under 16 or parent or carer of child under 16 – facilitate procurement of child to engage in sexual act.

The documents alleged the Marsden High School teacher used an online chat platform, including Snapchat, to communicate with a 14-year-old girl, before they met twice in June.

It has been alleged that Lee dressed to pose as a teen to chat to teen girls who he lavished with praise over weeks before asking them to send him photos of themselves naked via online platforms.

Lee, whose online CV also lists that he previously worked at Beenleigh State High School, was alleged to also have gained the girls’ trust by leading them to believe he was a slightly older boy who found them attractive before encouraging them to send the compromising photos of themselves.

It was the second mention for Lee who was stood down from his role after he was arrested and taken into custody following a police warrant to search his Underwood home on July 11.

A report was made to police on Wednesday, July 10, with detectives immediately conducting inquiries.

Following those investigations, officers executed the search warrant and took Lee into custody that day and he was later granted watch-house bail.

Education Department officials said they had been in regular contact with students and their families about the teacher’s arrest.

Parents from one school said they wanted school programs to promote greater awareness of the dangers of giving out personal details over the phone.

The Department said it was also supporting the police investigation and providing ongoing support to the affected school community.

Counselling and guidance services are available to anyone requiring support.

Lee is due to appear in Wynnum Magistrates Court for a committal mention on September 23.
